Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how the Cadence Android application (“Cadence”, “the app”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you use it. Cadence is an offline music player developed by Useful Daily Apps (“the developer”). By installing or using Cadence you agree to this policy.

1. Information stored on your device

Cadence reads audio files from your device storage and builds a local library database (SQLite). The following information is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to us:

• Audio file metadata (title, artist, album, genre, duration, file path, embedded artwork).
• Playlists, queues, favorites, bookmarks, play counts, last-played timestamps and listening statistics.
• Lyrics you add or edit, tag edits, and ringtone clips you create.
• App settings such as theme, equalizer presets, crossfade duration, sleep timer and per-device EQ profiles.
• Optional credentials you enter (e.g. Last.fm or ListenBrainz session tokens) — stored on the device only.

Uninstalling Cadence removes this data, except for files you explicitly exported (backups, edited tags written back to audio files, exported ringtones).

2. Permissions and why we request them

• READ_MEDIA_AUDIO / READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — to find and read the music files on your device.
• WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE — to save ringtones, export backups, and (if you enable it) write edited tags back to audio files.
• FOREGROUND_SERVICE / FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PLAYBACK — to keep playback running with a notification when the app is in the background.
• MODIFY_AUDIO_SETTINGS — for the equalizer, balance, mono/stereo width, volume boost and other audio effects.
• POST_NOTIFICATIONS — to show the playback notification.
• WRITE_SETTINGS — only when you use the ringtone-maker to set a system ringtone.
• REQUEST_IGNORE_BATTERY_OPTIMIZATIONS — so the OS does not kill playback in the background.

Cadence explicitly does not request access to your photos, videos, camera or microphone.

3. Advertising (Google AdMob)

Cadence shows ads served by Google AdMob, a Google service. To deliver ads, the Google Mobile Ads SDK may collect and process information such as:

• Your device’s Advertising ID, IP address and approximate location derived from it.
• Device information (model, OS version, language, time zone, network type).
• App identifier and interactions with ads (impressions, clicks).

This data is collected and processed by Google, not by the developer, in accordance with the Google Privacy Policy and the AdMob developer policies. Where required by law, Google requests user consent for personalized ads before showing them.

You can reset or limit your Advertising ID from your Android device’s Settings → Privacy → Ads.

4. Optional online features

The following features are off by default. They only make network requests after you turn them on or trigger them.

4.1 Last.fm and ListenBrainz scrobbling

If you sign in to Last.fm or ListenBrainz inside Cadence, the app sends track-play events (artist, title, album, timestamp) to those services so they can record your listening history. Your account credentials and the data you submit are governed by their respective privacy policies. You can sign out at any time to stop scrobbling.

4.2 MusicBrainz metadata fetch

When you ask Cadence to look up metadata or artwork for a track, the app queries the MusicBrainz public API with the artist/album/title strings you selected. No account is required and no personal identifier is sent beyond the standard HTTP user-agent.

4.3 Chromecast

If you open the Cast picker, Cadence uses the Google Cast SDK to discover Cast-enabled devices on your local network. No data leaves the local network through this feature itself.

5. Data we do not collect

• We do not require an account.
• We do not collect analytics, crash reports or telemetry from your use of the app.
• We do not upload your music files, library, playlists or listening history to any server we control.
• We do not sell or share your data with third parties for their own marketing.

6. Children’s privacy

Cadence is a general-audience music player and is not directed at children under 13. The advertising network may serve ads; please refer to Google’s policies for how AdMob handles ad serving to mixed-audience or child-directed apps.

7. Security

Because Cadence stores your data locally on your device, the security of that data depends on the security of your device (screen lock, encryption, OS updates). Any credentials you enter for optional services are stored using standard Android storage; treat the device accordingly.

8. Your choices

• Revoke storage / media permissions in Android Settings to stop the app from reading your library.
• Sign out of Last.fm / ListenBrainz inside the app to stop scrobbling.
• Reset your Advertising ID from Android Settings to limit ad personalization.
• Uninstall the app to remove all locally stored Cadence data.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The “Effective date” at the top of this page reflects the most recent update. Material changes will be reflected in an updated version of the app or its store listing.
